Van den Broek found the net twice yesterday as Town's reserves drew 2-2 with Morecambe in a Totesport League encounter at the Greenhous Meadow.

That came fresh from a lively cameo at Chesterfield on Saturday where van den Broek helped Shrewsbury fight back from 4-0 down to leave the League Two leaders hanging on at 4-3.

And he is hoping those two displays have been enough to put him at the forefront of Turner's mind for the League Two visit of Barnet on Saturday.

"All season I have just been trying to make it as hard as possible for the manager to pick his first XI," said van den Broek.

"All I can do is keep working as hard as I can and try and score goals.

"I think I did all right when I came on last Saturday and I played pretty well yesterday.

"If I keep working as hard as I am, I know my chance will come.

"Getting the 90 minutes yesterday was really important to me and it's been a long time coming because of the ankle injury I had a few weeks ago."

Van Den Broek is desperate to play his part in Saturday's game, which the 23-year-old recognises is important after a run of just one victory in seven matches.

"The last few weeks have not been so good for us so we have to win on Saturday," he added.

Shrewsbury's FA Cup round one trip to Southampton is not one of the three selected for live television coverage.

It means the mouth-watering tie will be played at St Mary's on Saturday November 6 at 3pm.

l News on the extent of Tom Bradshaw's ankle injury, suffered playing for Wales under-19s on Monday, was still being awaited today.

Young striker Bradshaw was stretchered off in the closing stages of the 1-1 draw with Kazakhstan at Bridgend.
