Relieved Wolves boss Mick McCarthy today claimed the much needed victory over Sunderland was a turning point in their season.
And McCarthy denied his own position had been in danger before Saturday's success.
Wolves came back from 2-1 down with nine minutes left to beat the Black Cats 3-2 to end a run of four defeats.
Their third victory of the season lifted Wolves to within three points of safety.
And McCarthy is convinced the win could change the complexion of the campaign.
"It is a turning point," said the boss.
"We've got three points which hasn't happened very often this season. Goodness only knows what it will do for the rest of our season, but it's a turning point because we're on 12 points and not nine.
"If we'd been beaten it would have been a dreadful day for us.
"It was three deserved points and if my future was in any doubt it was news to me."
McCarthy claimed the victory was reward for the loyal fans as he hit out at the 'numpties' undermining him with criticism on radio phone-ins and internet messageboards, where some supporters have been calling for his head.
"I'm delighted for everybody and in particular for the fans who stuck with us," he added. "There was some suggestion I'd had a go at them. That wasn't right.
"I had a go at the 'numpties' who phone in radio stations and do blogs and things like that. Our fans who turn up here have been brilliant this season."
