One of the best bowlers outside the Furrows Shropshire Premier League has moved a step closer to having a crack at it.

Daryl Edwards has confirmed he will sign forms with champions Castlefields at the start of next year, ending his 10-year association with Pontesbury.

And the Minsterley-based 47-year-old electrician hasn't given up hope of a Shropshire recall after last playing for the county team in 2006.

Edwards expects to begin life at Castlefields in the club's Tanners Shropshire League team.

"I have been talking to Castlefields and will sign for them when the forms are out in the new year," said Edwards, who has claimed many local open titles.

"They have got a lot of competitive players and hopefully it will bring my game on. The ultimate aim would be to get in the Premier League but I need to get to know the green first.

"If it goes well next year, then hopefully I can put myself in contention for county selection again."

Edwards, who has also had a spell at Ford, has never bowled in the Premier.

Delighted Fields skipper Keith Walton said: "All the lads know we have signed a quality player and he's still a county player in my eyes.

"He's come to the best team in Shropshire and I think that will improve him as a bowler even more."
