Rugby: Newport aiming for Malvern win
Newport are out to eradicate the memory of one of their darkest days of the season when they make the trip to Malvern tomorrow.
Newport are out to eradicate the memory of one of their darkest days of the season when they make the trip to Malvern tomorrow.
The men from Forton Road were beaten 36-31 on their own patch by the Worcestershire side back in October.
To make it worse, they had been 20 points ahead in that National League Three Midlands clash at one stage.
"We owe them one for what happened that day, it's a big motivation for us," said team manager Gareth Davies.
"We'll be looking to re-dress the balance tomorrow and come away with the lion's share of the points.
"They are not a bad side," he added. "They blow hot and cold but they turned over Longton (who are second in the table) the other week - that was a result that surprised the whole division.
"We just need to make sure we play a full 80-minute game like we did last week (in a 17-7 win at home to Scunthorpe)." Newport are without a trio of players due to a combination of injuryand unavailability.
Winger Marc Millward, centre James Curgenven and fly-half Rob Clymer all miss the match.
Bottom-of-the-table Hereford will come up against another promotion-chasing side when they take on South Leicester at Wyeside.
Leading South Leicester's charge will be the division's leading point scorer Mark Lord, who has converted 180 points.
