Bridgnorth and Newport will go head-to-head in rugby's Shropshire Cup final next week.

Newport had already received a bye through to the final while Bridgnorth overcame their Midlands Two rivals Shrewsbury at Forton Road 39-10 last night.

Craig Thomas led the way with two tries for Bridgnorth, with Dan Griffiths, Rod Rollings, Ryan Arnel and Gareth Bladen also crossing the line.

Sam Woodhall grabbed a penalty and two conversions, with Bladen also successful with a conversion attempt.

"It was a very pleasing win and we look forward to the final," said Bladen.

"Both teams had a lot of changes but the second team and colts players who stepped up for us did very well."

Shrewsbury led 10-7 at one stage with Chris Perry scoring a try, conversion and penalty.

"We were well in the game just after half-time and I think 39-10 flattered Bridgnorth slightly," said Shrewsbury captain Simon Evitts. "But they showed more heart and deserved to go through."

The final will be staged at Forton Road on Saturday week.
