Telford Titans have laid out their intentions for the season ahead with the capture of former Tigers defenceman Ashley Stanton.

Stanton retired from ice hockey earlier this year, but has been persuaded to a return by Titans boss Dave Fielder.

The 27-year-old played for the Titans during the 2009/10 season and Fielder is hoping he can once again prove to be a threat from the blue line.

He said: "Ashley is someone who can play at the back and get a few goals as well.

"We have some good players at the back but not a really offensive defender, which he can hopefully step up and do."

Stanton retired from the EPL Tigers midway last season, with the gruelling schedule of two matches nearly every weekend having taken its toll.

Fielder believes the lighter programme of games in ENL 1 North means his new signing can combine an ice hockey career with family life.

He added: "One of the reasons he left the Tigers was the commitment, and with the Titans he will play a bit less, so he can still enjoy it."

Telford will also welcome back Andy Oldham and Luke Hayward for the start of the season in September.

"Andy takes the pressure off Owen to stick up for the other guys," Fielder said.

"We now have two or three who can can play.

"He is a big lad, but he can also stick handle and shoot well.

"Luke was there for every practice and game last season.

"He didn't get many points, but was solid on defence."

Telford Titans will also be taking a look back at last season on Saturday night.

The club will hold its annual presentation it the ice rink bar, starting at 7.30pm.

Tickets, to include a buffet, are £5.
