Rookie Shropshire trainer Dave Roberts tasted success for the first time in his fledgling career – as Cat Six romped to a Bangor victory in the colours of his father Brian.
Roberts, based at Kenley, near Much Wenlock, has only held his permit for two months and was thrilled to get off the mark in the novice chase last night, with jockey Lee Edwards from Cressage piloting the 7-2 shot to a 29 length victory over Donald McCain's Al Qeddaaf.
"We have had placed horses but this is obviously the one that counts as it is owned by my dad," said Roberts.
"Bangor has always been my favourite course as I used to come here when I was a kid, so to send out my first winner here makes it all the more special.
"It's something we will all always remember."
Roberts snr added: "We could not be more pleased.
"We knew she was getting weight from the others but it was her attitude that impressed as she kept finding more."
