Shropshire's Jessica Pugh is proving a big smash on the badminton scene – claiming prestigious national honours at two age groups.

The 14-year-old had already taken top honours in an Elite under-15s tournament in Nottingham earlier this month.

But the Charlton School pupil from Wellington, produced one of the best results of her fledgling career at the under-17s Gold Star England Elite tournament in Milton Keynes at the weekend.

Jessica sealed two gold medals – starting with a success in the singles as she sailed through to the final before beating Yorkshire's Natalie Chan Lam, who is rated as one of England's finest players.

The Telford ace secured a stunning 21-18 21-19 straight sets victory to earn the admiration of the watching England coaches.

And she proved that was no fluke as she followed up in the girls doubles as well, teaming up with Ira Banerjee from Northumberland to win another gold.

Having represented England at the Langenfeld International in Germany – where she reached the semi-finals in the under-15s singles and doubles – she has again been picked for her country for the forthcoming Danish Cup.

But her impressive recent form means that it has not yet been decided whether she will be part of the under-15 or 17 squads.
