The England international finished in a tie for 23rd position in a field of more than 260 at the New South Wales Medal – one of the most prestigious amateur tournaments in Australia – after the final two rounds scheduled for today were washed out due to heavy downpours.
And that was enough for Hawkstone Park's Chesters to be among the 32 qualifiers who progressed to the New South Wales Amateur Championship, a matchplay knockout event which gets under way at Elanora on Monday.
The 22-year-old Shropshire player faces Irishman Reeve Whitson in the first round.
Meanwhile, Ludlow professional Oliver Farr has earned the sixth pay cheque of his professional career.
A level par 72 in the final round of the latest Hooters Tour event at Timacuan in Florida saw Farr drop down from 23rd to 36th place.
A double bogey seven at the par-five third proved costly but Farr, 24, found some consolation in prize money of 924 dollars.
