Shropshire golfer James Busby has made a solid start to his Challenge Tour campaign.

Playing his first tournament since booking his place on the second tier of European golf, Busby fired a two-over-par opening round 74 in windy conditions at the Pacific Rubiales Classic in Colombia.

The 29-year-old from Telford, who plays out of The Shropshire Golf Centre in Muxton, carded five bogeys and three birdies – – to end the first of four days in a share of 39th position.

That was just six shots off the lead jointly held by England's Daniel Brooks and Colombian Manny Villegas.

Church Stretton's Jonathan Gidney, playing courtesy of an invite, found the going tough and struggled to a 10-over-par 82.
