Shropshire golf pro Oliver Farr is on course to take advantage of a rare start in an event on the second tier of European golf.

Ludlow's Farr returned a two-under-par opening round 69 in the Barclays Kenya Open at Muthaiga yesterday to lie in a share of 13th spot after day one.

Farr, who turned pro in November, was only offered an invite to the Challenge Tour event last Thursday and flew out on his 24th birthday on Sunday.

James Busby, who lives in Hadley in Telford and plays out of the Shropshire Golf Centre, was in a share of 37th after a level-par 71.

Both Shropshire players would have been disappointed to end their rounds with a bogey six at the 534-yard par-five 18th.

But the pair are in touch with leader Morten Orum.
