John Hales believes Neptune Collonges can bring Grand National glory to Shropshire tomorrow.

The 11-year-old will line up as a part of the 40-strong field for the Aintree marathon in the quest to land the world's most famous steeplechase.

Neptune Collonges, who is almost certain to be having his final run, finished third in the 2008 Gold Cup.

Cosford-based owner Hales watched another of his charges, Al Ferof, finish in a disappointing third place to Menorah in the 2m 4f Betfred Manifesto Novices' Chase at Liverpool yesterday.

But Hales still believes he retains enough class to challenge for glory.

He said: "The other 39 runners are all dangers. But if Neptune is still there in the top dozen after the first circuit, then he is in with a good chance."

Neptune Collonges will be ridden by Daryl Jacob and is priced at 33-1 for tomorrow's spectacle.
