Bridgnorth Town ended a 26-year wait for Shropshire glory as they edged out Morda to lift the Challenge Cup.

The Midland Alliance side, managed by former Wolves and Northern Ireland defender Mark Clyde, ran out 3-1 winners at Shrewsbury Town's Greenhous Meadow last night.

And Clyde was thrilled to end the season on a high by lifting the club's first county silverware since they claimed the Shropshire Senior Cup in 1985-86 and extending their unbeaten run to 15 games.

"I'm delighted for the players because it's been a long season and they have come through a lot," he said.

"But football is all about winning trophies and medals and it's nice to do that. Everyone at the club has waited a long time."

Bridgnorth took the lead on 12 minutes when a well-worked corner from Jason Pike was flicked on by Andy Hartlebury and Ryan Guryn was on hand to slot home from five yards.

Morda – who play four levels lower in the County Premier League – levelled six minutes later when Dan Graham latched onto a through ball from Shin Miah and lobbed advancing Bridgnorth goalkeeper Chris Crook.

But the higher ranked side were back in front by half-time thanks to a close range finish from man of the match Karl Griffiths.

Morda's Mike Lloyd saw an effort cleared off the line by Kevin Buxton in the second period but an injury-time penalty from Jason Pike after a handball put the game to bed.
