Teenager Adele Nicoll has managed to do something most athletes can only dream of – break a record in the Olympic Stadium.
Teenager Adele Nicoll has managed to do something most athletes can only dream of – break a record in the Olympic Stadium.
The 15-year-old from Welshpool broke the Welsh national shot putt record at the UK School Games with a throw of 13.71m.
That distance was 3cm further than the previous record set by Phillipa Roles in 1994, and it proved enough to give Nicoll overall victory in the competition.
"It was amazing to pick up my medal on the same rostrum that the Olympians will be standing on later this year," she said.
"I knew I had a chance of breaking the record before the competition and when I heard I'd thrown 13.71m, I was buzzing.
"The memory of what it felt like breaking that record is something no-one can ever take away from me."
Nicoll had the chance to check out the venues that will be used at this summer's games, as well as the athletes' village – and the youngster was impressed with what she saw.
"We were lucky to check it all out and I have to say the facilities are absolutely brilliant," she added.
"I felt really quite special having my name read out when I collected my medal at the end and I am really proud."
