Shropshire's Scott Drummond was today braced for a massive struggle to make the cut at European golf's flagship event.
Shrewsbury-born Drummond won the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in 2004 but a poor first round five-over-par 77 left him near the back of the field. He was level par through the first six holes but dropped three shots in two holes at the seventh and the eighth.
Back-to-back birdies at the 11th and 12th offered hope but three bogeys and a double in five holes put Drummond in further trouble. He birdied the 18th, but needed a big improvement.
