Shropshire golfer Oliver Farr has recorded one of his best finishes as a professional.

The 23-year-old from Ludlow finished the Ulster Bank Open, a EuroPro Tour event at Galgorm Castle in Northern Ireland, in a share of sixth position.

Former Shropshire & Herefordshire regular and Welsh international Farr ended on eight-under-par after a final round 69 yesterday to accompany his scores of 72 and 67 over the first two days.

Farr earned £1,100 in prize money and was just four shots behind Bristol-based winner Paul Reed.

James Busby, who plays out of The Shropshire Golf Centre at Muxton, is tied for 11th at the midway point of the latest tournament on Europe's second tier.

Busby carded a second round 68 at the Fred Olsen Challenge de Espana to move to eight-under-par and just five shots off the lead in the Challenge Tour event.

Shifnal's Peter Baker saw his hopes of retaining one of the biggest titles in the Midlands dashed.

The former Ryder Cup star posted a two-under-par 69 on the final day of the PTS Invitational at South Staffs Golf Club to improve his tally to five-under, but that was seven shots behind runaway winner Matthew Cort of Rothley.

"Yesterday's 66 was good because I was in the pack and when I eagled the 16 second time around it gave me something of a buffer. But if I had holed some putts it could have been even better," said Cort.

Chesterton Valley's Phil Hinton bagged a final round 70 for a threeover-total and a share of 13th spot.

Meanwhile, players from four different clubs were represented in the semi-finals of the Shropshire Ladies Championship at Llanymynech today.

Oswestry's Victoria Bradbeer progressed to the last four with a 5&4 triumph over club-mate Gemma Thornell, while Lilleshall's Katrina Gillum defeated Hill Valley's Sarah McGinley by the same scoreline.

Worfield's Helen White ended the home club's hopes of glory by seeing off Ann Weetman 3&2 while No.1 seed Lucy Evans is flying the Wrekin flag after defeating Oswestry's Bryony Smith 3&2.

Today's semi-finals were between Evans and Bradbeer while White faced Gillum with the final to follow later.
