Ellesmere Rangers are hoping to unveil a new management team in the next few days after former boss Matt Burton stepped down.

Burton spent four years in charge at the Midland Alliance club – including two half season stints as joint-bosses with John Rhodes and Lee Mills – but has stepped down due to work and family commitments.

He guided the club to Shropshire Challenge Cup glory in 2009-10 and claimed the West Midlands League Premier Division title in the same season before establishing the club in the Alliance for the last two years.

"It's been a great few years and the thing I will miss most is the banter in the changing room," said Burton.

"It's the right time to step down with work and family commitments and also the club may benefit from having a fresh voice in there."

Rangers director of football Alan Davis paid tribute to Burton and revealed there had been no shortage of interest in the Beech Grove vacancy.

"Matt's done a great job and we wish him well for the future," he said.

Among the possible replacements are Richard Brown and Richard Gardner, who guided Wellington Amateurs to the West Midlands Division One League and Cup double last season.
