Shropshire's under-11 cricket girls will make history this weekend when they play their first ever game.

The 15-strong squad will head to Wem to take on Lancashire tomorrow in the team's inaugural fixture.

Shropshire is one of a handful of county boards that have developed girls under-11 cricket programmes, said the county's cricket development manager Chris Dirkin.

The programme will see players take part in two games per day to develop their skills and knowledge during competition.

Shropshire has arranged fixtures against Lancashire, Staffordshire, Worcestershire and Wales and a festival in Malvern in August.

Squad selected to play Lancashire: Molly Batkin (Whitchurch), Ellie Blocksidge, Emily Coffey, Sarah Hide and Kiana Roberts (all Wellington), Alannah Dirkin, Georgina Hartley, Keira Lorimer and Eve Poole (all Shifnal), Abigail Parker (Ellesmere College), Charley Munroe (St Georges), Megan Parsons (Wem), Chloe Sanders (Madeley), Megan Trickett (Lilleshall) and Cerys Trubshaw (Ellesmere).

Meanwhile, Wellington fly the Shropshire flag in the National Club Twenty20 tomorrow.

They head to Himley to take on Halesowen at 1.30pm tomorrow.

Wolverhampton play hosts Himley earlier in the day with the two winners meeting at 5pm.

The successful team progress to the Birmingham League's finals day where a place in the national stages will be up for grabs.
