Billy Jones heads back to Shrewsbury to meet youngsters
Shrewsbury-born Premier League footballer Billy Jones has been helping to inspire the next generation of stars in his home-town.
The West Bromwich Albion defender was a guest at a children's football skills course at Shrewsbury Sports Village in Sundorne.
The 25-year old handed out more than a dozen trophies to star-struck young players at the third day of a series of courses run by Baschurch-based Jonny Hughes Coaching.
Mr Hughes plays football with Jones' brother Josh in the Shrewsbury Sunday League, and the full-back accepted an invitation to attend the course to hand out prizes.
Hughes said his appearance had made a big impression on the 17 five to 11-year-olds who had attended.
"The children were awe-struck," he said. "He came in his tracksuit and he was really good with the kids."
Jones, currently recovering from injury, also took part in a question and answer session. Earlier in the day the youngsters had carried out a ball mastery session, used a speed radar to measure the power of their shots, carried out accuracy drills on an inflatable football game and took part in speed, agility and quickness drills.
More than 70 children took part in classes over three days and the company will be holding further sessions over Christmas.
