Shropshire FA unveil plans for 150th anniversary
The Shropshire Football Association has unveiled plans for a series of special events to help mark the 150th anniversary of its parent association.
The centre-piece will be two gala dinners in the summer, held at Shrewsbury Town, one rewarding junior football and the other putting the adult game in the spotlight.
The English FA was formed in 1863 in London, where founder members agreed to abide by the first 13 laws of the game. Shropshire FA, formed in 1877, is one of the oldest spin-off county associations.
Chairman Dave Ralphs said the county group wanted to use the milestone as a chance to acknowledge the work of football volunteers who support the game in Shropshire and shaped its development over the decades.
He said: "The Shropshire FA, which will achieve its own 150-year landmark in just 14 years, will use the next six months to bring the unique history of football to life.
"It will tell the story of founding fathers who created some great moments in Shropshire football."
Among the events planned in Shropshire over the coming months are football festivals in Telford, Shrewsbury, Ludlow and Market Drayton.
There will also be a girls' futsal festival, a women's summer league, and development courses for coaches and referees.
The Shropshire Star will be the media partner for the two gala dinners, on July 26 and 27.
