Evans, from Whitchurch, finished just behind winner Joe Choong and silver medallist Jamie Cooke in the overall men's competition on Saturday. The competition, which had seen five athletes in with a shout in the run/shoot, was decided by a sprint finish. Evans, who won a bronze medal on his World Cup debut in California in February, finished ahead of double Olympian Sam Weale, in fourth, and fifth-placed Tom Toolis. He also came second in the junior men's standings behind Choong. Murray and Choong have now secured places on the British team to compete at the European Championships in Poland in July. Shropshire Olympian Nick Woodbridge, from Telford, missed out through illness. Jan Bartu, Pentathlon GB performance director, said: "It was very competitive. It shows it was a good idea to get the juniors and seniors in the mix in open competition. "The decision for the winner to compete at the European Championships also gave the competition a tension and some extra competitiveness."
