Shropshire judo ace Sarah Adlington takes bronze
Shropshire judo ace Sarah Adlington secured the biggest result of her career when she won a bronze medal for Great Britain at the Moscow Grand Slam.
The three-times world cup winner, from Bayston Hill, registered three ippons on her way to her first medal on the IJF world tour.
Opening with an ippon victory over Ksenia Chibisova of Russia, she lost by the same score to Germany's Jasmin Kuelbs in round two before clinching a bronze final place by seeing off Brazilian Rochele Nunes.
There she produced a superb osotogari leg throw as she floored another German Franziska Konitz to take the third-place honours.
Adlington said: "It feels really good to finally get a grand slam medal and not a fifth place. I was pleased with the bronze fight as I lost to the German last time we met, so revenge was good."
Adlington was one of two British medal winners among four women reaching the bronze medal fights in their respective classes.
Gemma Gibbons beat Holland's Iris Lemmen by two yukos, but Natalie Powell and Sally Conway lost.
