Time running out for cyclists to join Ironbridge to Barmouth bike ride
Time is running out for cyclists to get on their bikes and sign up for a charity ride.
Today is the last chance to register for the 100-mile bike ride from Ironbridge to Barmouth which will raise money for Severn Hospice.
The hospice has teamed up with Bicycles by Design, in Jackfield, to organise one of its more unusual fundraising events.
The Cambrian Century Midnight Ride to Barmouth is a 100-mile cycle ride with a twist and is set to take place on August 3.
Organisers at Severn Hospice have said they are allowing people to sign up until the end of today.
Offering cyclists the opportunity to test their strength and stamina, the charity ride has the added challenge of being at night.
Starting at midnight, the challenging route passes through the Shropshire countryside before crossing the Cambrians and Mid Wales, arriving in time to watch the sunrise in Barmouth.
Organisers are urging all those who have not yet registered will do so quickly to avoid disappointment as the deadline for entries fast approaches.
Pete Bird, co-organiser of the ride, said: "This really is a great event as it's two challenges in one – not only do you have to ride 100 miles, but you have to do it at night.
"It is perfect for experienced riders who are looking to push themselves.
"Last year all the riders who took part formed an amazing camaraderie, with no-one riding on their own.
"I would urge people who are thinking about doing something like this to sign up today; it really is a fantastic experience."
The event is aimed at experienced cyclists aged over 21 who are comfortable riding at night down country lanes.
Registration for the event costs £30 which includes a free repair service along the route, tea and coffee at each of the checkpoints and the all-important breakfast once cyclists reach the finish line.
There is no minimum sponsorship amount specified.
