The 37-year-old, who lived in Telford during his spell with Wolves, takes over after spending the last two seasons as an assistant with the Major League Soccer club.

Robinson replaces Martin Rennie, who was fired in October after Vancouver failed to make the play-offs.

A native of Llandrindod Wells, the former midfielder enjoyed stints with Wolves, Portsmouth and Norwich in addition to earning 52 caps for Wales. He was loaned to shrewsbury in 1996 and made four appearances.

Robinson spent three seasons with Toronto before joining the New York Red Bulls in 2010. For the last two seasons he has been a coach with Vancouver.

"I'm really excited about the opportunity to drive this club forward," said Robinson.
