British tennis players proving a real hit in Shrewsbury
Four British men have made it through to the quarter-finals of the men's singles in the Aegon GB Pro-Series at The Shrewsbury Club.
Second seed Ashley Hewitt followed up his defeat of Dane Freddie Nielsen with victory over Nottingham teenager Luke Bambridge.
Hewitt took the first set on a tie break 8-6 before taking hold of the match to complete a 7-6, 6-3 win.
Top seed Dan Cox produced a solid performance to oust Matthias Wunner 6-3, 6-2 while sixth seed Josh Milton was equally ruthless in his 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Dutch player Kevin Griekspoor.
Fourth seed Liam Broady completed the quartet of British men through to the last eight with a 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 triumph over another Dutchman, Sander Arends.
The unorthodox Arends is a tricky opponent, as he proved when taking the first set convincingly, but Broady, 20, ranked as high as two in the world as a junior, levelled the match and then picked his opponent off with a series of passing shots to take the decider set.
Cox now meets Gleb Sakharov of France, Broady faces Swede Isak Arvidsson while Josh Milton and Ashley Hewitt play each other .
Third seed Micke Kontinen, from Finland plays Swede Elias Ymer in the other quarter-final clash.
