Ex-Wolves striker Leigh Griffiths in racism probe
Leigh Griffiths today faced a racism probe after being accused of calling former Hearts player Rudi Skacel "a refugee".
The Celtic hitman has been caught on video leading Hibernian fans in singing a song about Skacel in an Edinburgh pub before Hibs' derby with Hearts.
Video had already emerged of the 23-year-old chanting about the possible liquidation of Hearts and he had been issued with a notice of complaint by the Scottish FA.
It is understood the SFA will consider the new allegation as part of the original charge. A Police Scotland spokeswoman said it would also be launching an investigation, while Celtic are believed to have started their own probe. Anas Sarwar, deputy leader of the Scottish Labour Party and MP for Glasgow Central, called for police to investigate Griffiths' behaviour. And anti-racism charity Show Racism the Red Card urged Celtic to send Griffiths to one of their workshops.
Sarwar said: "Intolerance and racism is not acceptable in society, the workplace or football.
"It doesn't reflect the best of Scotland, we celebrate our differences and any racist actions from anyone should face the full weight of the law."
But it is expected that Griffiths will escape with a censure from the national governing body following its own disciplinary process.
