Former England flanker Richard Hill MBE , who won 71 caps for his country, checked in to take training with the youngsters after Freddie's name was drawn out of a hat when the under-7s took part in the Lexus Festival earlier this season.

That tournament provides an opportunity for over 2,000 players, from under-7 to under-10s, to hone their skills in competition with clubs from their region.

Hill said: "It allows players to practice what they have been performing in training and then apply them to matches. Competition is an important part of life and, these days, helps to harness the emotions or triumph and desire to improve for the next time."

The club's under-7s have enjoyed a good first year of playing tag rugby. They have reached the final seections in both the Lexus and Sutton Festivals.

Hill showed them a few top tips on the first-team pitch as he encourages the next generation of players, with team manager Mike Bazeley just as star-struck.

He said: "What an inspiration to meet a great rugby star."
