The 30-year-old, who is currently without a club, left Skrill Premier side Forest Green Rovers by mutual consent earlier this week after failing to hold down a regular place in the side.

He enjoyed a fruitful loan spell at Southport this season, netting six times in 10 games.

Walker is reported to be interesting a number of clubs, including Town and Tranmere Rovers, with the player mulling over an offer from an unnamed club.

He said: "I had a chat with the gaffer (Ade Pennock) after Saturday's game and we were both honest with each other.

"He said he couldn't guarantee me starts next year and we both decided it would be best if I moved on, especially with the number of strikers under contract there.

"I can't fault him at all, though it would have been nice to show the fans what I could do when I was there.

"I loved my time at Southport, though, and John Coleman built my confidence back up and I'd like to think I played some part in helping them stay up.

"I've had an offer already which I'm looking at and I believe there are three or four other clubs interested so we'll see.

"Whether I move to a Football League club or an ambitious Conference club only time will tell, but I'm just looking forward to getting something signed and hitting the ground running in pre-season."

Walker has also played for Greenock Morton, Morecambe, Barrow, Luton Town, and Swedish side Östersunds FK in a 10-year-career.
