Telford agree to landmark sale of Mike Phenix
AFC Telford have today agreed to sell six goal top scorer Mike Phenix to League One side Barnsely in a history-making deal.
The former Skelmersdale United player, who arrived at the New Bucks Head in the summer of 2013, had hit the ground running with six goals in 14 league games.
His eye-catching form alerted the likes of Conference Premier rivals Halifax as well as Barnsley.
And a statement by the club today confirmed they have agreed a deal for Phenix with Barnsley which will be the club's joint-highest ever player sale.
It reads: "AFC Telford United yesterday received an approach from Halifax regarding Mike Phenix which we would have done our best to fend off as there was no desire to see Mike leave for a competitor.
"Subsequently the club also received an approach from Barnsley.
"The Board of Directors and Manager were reluctant to let the player go but, as in all cases, the offer was put to the player and his wishes, to make the progression into the full time game, were fully taken into account.
"With this in mind we have reluctantly agreed to the transfer of Mike to Barnsley.
"We have agreed a deal with cash up front and staged payments at various intervals thereafter which would make Mike the joint highest player sale in the Club's history. We have also negotiated a sell on clause and a pre-season friendly with Barnsley.
"We wish Mike all the best for the future. It has been an immense pleasure working with him."
