Shifnal Town have been asked to explain in writing why their recent match with Ellesmere Rangers was postponed.

The West Midlands Premier Division derby clash had been scheduled for last Saturday but was called off less than five hours before kick off because Shifnal could not raise a team.

West Midlands League chief executive Neil Juggins said: "We have written to Shifnal for their observations as to why the match was postponed.

"Once we have their reply that will be considered by the management committee who will then decide upon any further action if necessary."

Asked what potential action the committee could take he added: "We think it is only fair and proper that the club should have a right to respond before we make any comment about what we might or might not do.

"There is a variety of options but none of those will be considered until we get Shifnal's reply. They have 14 days in which to respond."

Earlier this week Shifnal boss Matt Flanagan told the Shropshire Star the postponement was due to a freak set of player absences.
