Write new history, Bridgnorth All Blacks are urged

Bridgnorth chairman Peter Parkes is urging his players to write a new chapter in the rugby club's history when they face Scarborough away tomorrow.

Should the All Blacks triumph in Saturday's RFU Intermediate Cup semi-final, they would become the first team in the club's existence to reach Twickenham.

The final of the competition will be played at the home of rugby next month and Bridgnorth are one win away from booking their place in it against the winner of Coney Hill and Maidstone.

Parkes said: "It would be a first for us. The club was formed in 1962 and we are in our 53rd season so this is a chance for the players to re-write club history.

"This is one of our biggest ever games and it would be a proud chapter in our history if we can win it."

Bridgnorth have received great backing in their cup run so far and the prospect of a Twickenham final would provide a great occasion for the town to savour.

Parkes is understandably keen to see that delivered but he is not putting too much pressure on his players, who will start as favourites tomorrow on the back of a superb season in Midlands Two West (North).

Bridgnorth have compiled a 19-match winning streak in the league this season so far while Scarborough have been less dominant in their own campaign. They are sixth in Yorkshire Division One, having won 10 and lost 12 of their 23 league games.

But Parkes knows anything can happen in a cup game and he said: "All we can do is our best.

"We know preparation has been very good and we are taking a very strong squad up. A big performance will be required but they are all very professional in the way they go about things.

"And if they have that approach tomorrow we will be proud of them whatever the result."
