Shrewsbury's Steve Leach hits ton for Oxford – but he's no big hit with KP

Shrewsbury's Steve Leach sent England hopeful Kevin Pietersen running for cover, as he claimed his maiden first-class century.

Left-handed opening batsman Leach made an impressive 110 not out for Oxford MCCU against Surrey and also forced Pietersen to leave the field with an injured hand after he tried to catch one of his shots.

England's record run-scorer was hurt after Leach edged a Gareth Batty off break towards him at short fine leg.

The 34-year-old, who made 170 on Sunday but did not bat in Surrey's second innings, tumbled as he attempted to take the catch, but the ball evaded him.

Pietersen shook his hand gingerly and laughed as he left the field before the tea interval and he did not return for the final session.

But he was said to be "fine" by Surrey and is expected to face Glamorgan in the County Championship on Sunday.

Leach's fine innings included 16 fours and one six as Oxford MCCU posted 212-2 in their second innings to draw the clash.
