Bridgnorth trio earn call-up for Shropshire's Three Counties Championship final
Three of Bridgnorth Rugby Club's treble-winning heroes have been called up for Shropshire's Three Counties Championship final against Worcestershire & Herefordshire tomorrow.
All Blacks' No.8 Darren Brick, prop Adam Stirling and back row forward Tim Breakwell all come into the county squad for the match, which will take place at Old Halesonians' Wassell Grove ground (3pm).
Shropshire, who are seeking a third straight win in the competition which features the three Domestic Unions that comprise the North Midlands RFU, were unable to select Bridgnorth players for their two group matches while the club prepared for the Intermediate Cup final at Twickenham.
The All Blacks lost that final, their only defeat of the season, 31-18 to Maidstone but won the Midlands Two West North title, the Intermediate Midlands Cup and North Midlands Shield in a glittering campaign.
Shropshire will be missing Whitchurch flanker Jimmy Lloyd, who is on holiday, and Ludlow wing Will Sparrow who is unavailable because of work commitments.
The Three Counties Championship will give Shropshire the chance to end a memorable season for rugby in the county that has seen four clubs – Bridgnorth, Newport, Cleobury Mortimer and Church Stretton – win league titles.
"It has been a fantastic season for rugby in Shropshire and the majority of players in our squad will have only lost one or two games between them all season. So they bring a lot of confidence to the squad and there is a real buzz about tomorrow's final," said Shropshire coach Steve Dolphin.
