Shrewsbury power into national U13 final
Shrewsbury are the pride of the county after powering their way to victory in the NatWest ECB Under-13 Club final.
Skipper Lewis Evans led by example with stunning figures of 4-2, including a brilliant caught and bowled, as near neighbours Wellington were blown away.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, a calamitous first over that brought two run outs put Wellington on the back foot.
Evans' superb spell tightened Shrewsbury's grip on the contest with Ted Stone, Luke Sumner, Sam Davies, Will Taylor and Dan Schofield providing excellent support.
Only Adam Lloyd (14) and Patrick Ward-Clayton (12) reached double figures in Wellington's total of 34 all out in the 16th over.
In reply, Wellington seamers Frank Mansell and Dan Pitchford stuck manfully to their task as the Shrewsbury openers Dan Schofield (7 not out) Finn Sansom (9) regularly played and missed.
However, the breakthrough did not arrive until 27 were the board when Ward-Clayton dismissed Sansom.
That brought Evans to the wicket and he quickly struck two boundaries to enable the hosts reach their victory target for the loss of just one wicket.
Shrewsbury will now visit the Staffordshire champions in the first regional round of the national competition.
