Stanley Lin, from Priorslee, has been named as the PING Star of the Future at the American Golf Junior Championship Final.

More than 400 young golfers entered the six American Golf Junior Championship qualifying events held across the UK and Ireland this summer.

And Lin, who qualified at an event held at Gaudet Luce Golf Club in Worcestershire, was one of just 36 golfers to make it through to the final.

The talented eighth-year-old, who plays out of Telford Golf Club, plays off a handicap of 45 and he shot a fine 45 in the final.

He did not win the event but bosses named him star of the future for the second year running because of his fine golf skills as well as his love for the game and his positive attitude.

The Star of the Future award was created to recognise golfers who bring a great attitude, support other players and display the spirit of the game.

Lin said: "I am really happy about winning the prize. It was fun."

The final of the competition was played at Gainsborough Golf Club in Lincolnshire.

Daniel Gathercole, head of marketing at American Golf said: "Stanley's game is fantastic and he has such a great outlook. He loves golf so we are delighted to see him named Star of the Future again. "
