Whitchurch and St Patricks in finals day

The two schools progressed from the final round of group matches to a earn a shot at silverware at Shrewsbury Sports Village.

And the chance to represent Shrewsbury Town in the regional finals due to be played in March.

Whitchurch and St Patricks came out on top of a group that also included St Lawrence, Market Drayton and Wilfred Owen.

The opening matches of the English Schools Football Associations Under-11 Small Schools competition saw 12 schools from across the county competing.

The teams were placed in four groups with the top two sides in each progressing to round two on November 4.

Baschurch and Condover (Group One), Longden and St John the Baptist (Group Two) Longnor and Newtown (Group Three) and Prees and St Marys Shawbury (Group Four) were the eight sides who battled through to fight another day.

Notable performances came from Danny Hadden of St Marys, who scored a hat-trick against Much Wenlock, Much Wenlock's keeper Cian Hall and St Lucias midfielder and skipper Sam Pryce.
