Shrewsbury girls on high after win
Hockey players from Shropshire are celebrating after successfully defending a county title.
Shrewsbury High School's girls team have just become the Wrekin Sevens champions for the second year running.
They began the tournament in flying form, going undefeated in group stages.
They won all but one of their pool matches, beating Newcastle under Lyme 1-0, Wolverhampton Girls 5-0, Oswestry 4-0 and Bedstone 3-0 as well as drawing 0-0 with Ellesmere.
They advanced to the semi-final where they met Moreton Hall.
A very tight encounter followed but they emerged victorious with a 1-0 win to earn their place in a final shoot-out for silverware against Ellesmere.
This proved to be an even tougher match, and at full-time the score was 0-0.
It remained level after five minutes of extra-time but Shrewsbury held their nerve to win the match and the tournament on penalty flicks.
The winning team consisted of Becky Wealthall, Emily Crabtree, Cece Whittingham, Katie Crabtree, Charlotte Leach, Holly Shaw, Hattie Willicombe. Libby Gibbs, Lottie Hipperson and Gemma Pryce.
The team's achievement was even more notable as they won the competition without conceding a goal in any of their matches prior to the penalty shoot-out.
