Dave Edwards would love a Town return
Dave Edwards insists he would love to return to Shrewsbury Town in the future – and added that it would be 'perfect' for him.
The 29-year-old Wolves midfielder signed a one-year extension to his contract in August which keeps him at Molineux until 2017, when he will be 31.
Shrewsbury-born Edwards started his career with his home-town club and is a lifelong Salop supporter, still living in the county town.
And Edwards, who left Town for Luton in 2007 after 132 games for the Shrews, has confirmed he would love to return at some point.
He said: "I would absolutely love to. It would be the perfect thing to happen to me personally, being a local lad and having the fondness I have for the club.
"Football is a funny old game, it's about opinions. But if the opportunity did arise, I'd be delighted."
Edwards feels he left Shrewsbury under a cloud after a contract dispute, explaining: "I felt like when I left I went through the back door rather than facing everyone and saying my goodbyes.
"It got to January and I was out of contract in the summer and I hadn't heard about a new deal.
"I was playing regularly and when the first contract offer came, it was nowhere near what other first-team players were getting.
"At that time, my only real message to the manager Gary Peters was to see what division we were in next season before I made my decision.
"We were in the play-offs and there was a lot of pressure from the manager to sign a new contract and I wanted to get the season out of the way and then we'd talk.
"I got offered an ultimatum. We were in the play-off final so it was a case of 'if you don't sign your contract, you're not playing at Wembley' sort of thing.
"I explained why I wasn't going to sign, hoping I'd still play, but that wasn't the case, which was devastating.
"From then on, I knew that period of time at Shrewsbury was up. I went to watch the play-off final which we lost and from then on it was about sorting myself out for the following season."
