Skipper delighted by Shrewsbury's first win
Delighted skipper Simon Evitts praised his Shrewsbury side after they picked up their first win of the season.
The Sundorne men defeated Veseyans 24-7 to halt a run of six straight Midlands Two West North defeats.
Tries by Mike Venn and Lewis Jenkins set the hosts on their way, Jamie Simpson kicked 14 points. Evitts said: "The boys did really well. We dominated them up front."
Newport bounced back from their thumping at the hands of table-topping Hinckley to beat Lichfield 27-10 in National Three Midlands.
But director of rugby Chris Wilde admitted his concern at the growing number of injuries.
He said: "Now that was what I expect to see when a Newport team takes to the field.
"I have gone from being remarkably embarrassed to extremely proud of the players in the space of a few days.
"The number of injuries is a worry but I get the impression most teams are in the same boat in what is a very, very competitive league."
Bridgnorth recovered from a scoreless first-half to defeat Leek 26-10 in Midlands One West.
Leek have proved to be Bridgnorth's bogey team in the past – winning the three previous encounters by the narrowest of margins.
But Bridgnorth bounced back from a poor opening 40 minutes to stay in touch with the leading pack.
The visitors started strongly, but a series of penalties let Leek off the hook. The hosts then progressed down the field to touch down under the posts. The simple kick was converted.
Both sides missed long-range penalties before the hosts did eventually convert one to extend their advantage to 10-0.
Ed John came on for Adam Stirling and Calum Madden, returning after injury, replaced Jamie Ramsey as Bridgnorth looked for a way back.
The visitors' pack began to dominate and forced their opponents back for Gareth Bladen to nip over. Will Biddell's simple conversion pulled it back to 10-7.
Matt Farrington kept Leek on the back foot and Richard Hooper was next to score to put Bridgnorth ahead, Biddell converting.
Another scrum a few yards out gave captain Dan Griffiths the chance to go over.
Leek were reduced to 14 men and further forward pressure gave Farrigton the space to go over to seal the win and a bonus point.
Rampant Oswestry enjoyed a 60-0 mauling of Moore at rain-drenched Granville Park.
Despite the try frenzy, the Eagles remain in third spot, but are just four points adrift of the high-flying Manchester Medics with a game in hand.
Sam Wright and Man of the Match Deian Lloyd Hughes both touched down for unconverted scores.
The Eagles extended their lead further when Andy Merrett chipped over the defence line to run on and score under the posts, fly-half Fin Grogan converting.
And the hosts soon had their bonus point with a fourth try, when a piece of individual brilliance saw Tom H Jones catch the ball and kick on for his first try for the team.
Zac Baldwin then dived over the line before the Os carried on where they had left off in the second half.
The sprightly Baldwin added his second try, converted by Grogan for a commanding 34-0 lead.
And Oswestry underlined their superiority and fitness in the muddy conditions with further tries from Lloyd Hughes, James Booth and Jamie Luckett.
