Women's football round-up: Wrockwardine second best in top of table clash

As third welcomed second in the West Midlands Regional Premier, Wrockwardine Wood Ladies suffered a heavy 5-1 home defeat to Kinghurst.

The visitors started well and flew into a three-goal lead.

Wood fought back and pulled a goal back through Natasha Dunning with an excellent finish.

Kinghurst finished strongly and netted two late goals on their way to three points.

Wood face league leaders Crusaders at home this weekend.

TNS Ladies are back in action on Sunday when they go to Kinghurst after going two weeks without a fixture.

In the West Midlands Division One, Shrewsbury Town returned to action with an impressive 5-0 win against Atherstone.

It keeps Town in fifth place as they prepare to go to Shrewsbury Juniors on Sunday in a huge Shropshire derby.

Hannah Brown's double strike proved to no avail as The New Saints Reserves suffered a controversial 4-3 loss to Staffordshire Women's League Division One leaders Kidsgrove Athletic.

The Saints took the lead after 14 minutes when Brown scored her first goal of the season, before adding a second when tapping home the rebound after Maddie Jones' shot was saved.

Kidsgrove got back into the game just before half-time. Jones then fired home to give the Saints a two-goal cushion before Kidsgrove struck again.

The visitors then levelled despite the linesman's flag being raised for an offside. The decision would prove the turning point of the game with Kidsgrove snatching the winning goal with minutes remaining.

Saints reserves must pick themselves up at Leek CSOB on Sunday.

In Division Two, struggling Newport fell to their seventh league defeat in seven with an 8-0 home defeat to third-placed Red Street.

They host Miners on Sunday looking for their first points.

Beckie Brown's brace was enough to give the TNS Under-18s a 2-0 verdict against Stourbridge Juniors, while the Under-16s were locked in a goalless draw with Coundon Court Girls.

TNS Under-14s hit the goal trail as they swept aside Oswestry Boys Club Girls 5-0 with Harriet Davies and Faye Marshall both scoring twice, and Courtney Ashworth getting the other.

Two goals apiece from Sioned Roberts and Olivia Henderson helped TNS Under-12s to an 8-3 success at Newport Girls, with Lois Rathe, Mia Kaye, Seren Roberts and Emma Williams also on target.
