Liam Davies is just champion at bantam
Shropshire's Liam Davies has become a two-weight Central Elite champion after travelling up to bantamweight for the path ahead.
Davies, already in possession of the flyweight belt, seized a second strap from titlist David Seymour on an exciting split decision last weekend.
The 19-year-old, who fights out of his father Tristan Davies' Donnington Boxing Club, will be campaigning at 56kg for the foreseeable future.
The teenager will enter the England Elite national competition at the weight in March with confidence high he will succeed higher up, writes Craig Birch.
Davies ventured to Warwickshire to challenge Seymour, a product of Todd Reeves' Alcester School of Boxing, and set his stall up well.
He bossed the first-half of the bout and withstood a fightback from the champion, as the contest went to the cards. The judges were divided, but it was Davies who had his hand raised.
It came after Donnington staged their latest club show at the Telford district's Sports & Social Centre earlier this month, with eight out of 11 home fighters winners on the night.
Three skills bouts opened the bill, with two girls contests. Maddison Bodura was first through the ropes with Ella Wilkinson, from Brooklands in Dudley at 36kg.
Wesley Szklarzwicz and Mohammed Adam, from O'Dells in Birmingham, were then showcased at 32kg before a 48kg girls affair between Amelia Thompson and Millie Taylor, from Sittingbourne.
Competitive boxing then began with Jenson Bagnall Donnington's first winner at 42kg, defeating O'Dells' Ewan O'Sullivan unanimously on points.
Bradley Thompson, a Schools national semi-finalist earlier this year, then outclassed Cirencester's John Varey unanimously at 39kg.
There was disappointment for Donnington duo Amir Abbas and Finley Davies, who both lost split decisions to visiting opponents in the 54kg and 42kg divisions respectively.
Abbas was outpointed by John Smith, from Kings Heath, while Davies was downed in a bloody contest against Corby Olympic's Casey Stevenson.
Billy Chard, who has switched from Walsall Wood to Donnington, saw a split decision go his way against Richard Hughes, from Capitol in Coventry, at 42kg.
Brayden Davies recovered from a slow start to bloody the nose of tall southpaw Ryan Williams, from Chatteris in Cambridgeshire, and edge to a unanimous victory at 38kg.
Carlos Stewart, another Schools finalist this year, was back in action with a 74kg unanimous success over Gary Richards, from Maelor in Wrexham.
John Price couldn't keep Donnington's winning run going, though, as a hesitant performance resulted in a unanimous defeat to Solihull's Josh Da Silva.
Ryan Tyrer redressed the balance by rolling over Liam Marston, from Salopian in Shrewsbury, unanimously in an all-Shropshire battle at 56kg.
Macauley Owen scored another win for Donnington at 63kg by unanimously seeing off Simon Porter, from Llay in Wrexham, at 63kg.
The evening was completed by a super heavyweight contest and the night's only stoppage, which went the way of Donnington's Shane Batchelor.
Tommy Elliot, from South Normanton in Derbyshire, was pulled out by the referee in the first round as he absorbed a barrage of punches at 91kg plus.
