Mike Barton is a Level Three Lawn Tennis Association coach who has been working in Shropshire for many years, having represented the county at both junior and senior level.

Now, after launching his own coaching academy, Barton is attracting financial backing from local businesses.

The latest donation has come courtesy of Henshalls Insurance Brokers in Newport and Shrewsbury.

Barton said: "We run a variety of individual and group coaching programmes for over 300 players of all ages and abilities every week.

"To receive the support of high-profile local companies like Henshalls is testimony to the hard work our team is putting in.

"We are passionate about growing tennis in Shropshire, and our aim is to provide an enjoyable, friendly and family-orientated environment."

Based at Shrewsbury Lawn Tennis Club and High Ercall Tennis Club, the academy has access to 15 courts on various surfaces across the county.

It also provides coaching for Prestfelde, Shrewsbury School, and Shrewsbury Girls' High School.

Barton's work has been noted in high quarters. Cathie Sabin, president of the Lawn Tennis Association, said: "I have known Mike for many years

"I have seen him develop into a conscientious, diligent and hard-working tennis professional. He relates well to everyone and is able to find opportunities within tennis for people of all ages and abilities.

"It's never about time for Mike, it is all about the quality of what he is able to deliver to others."
