Ellesmere College are chasing tennis title
Ellesmere College tennis players are going for glory at Queenswood Tennis Centre in Hertfordshire.
The boys team have qualified for the finals of the LTA Team Tennis Schools National Championships (Glanvill Cup).
The team – Aleksandras Calovas, Marcus Reinert, Sam Chapman and Henning Bergmeyer – whitewashed Newcastle-under-Lyme 12-0 during the qualifiers.
They then went on to beat Kings School Chester 8-4.
In the regional final the team took on Fallibroome Academy from Macclesfield and went through 6-0.
Ellesmere's Chapman played a blinder to edge past his Fallibroome opponent 15-13 in a dramatic shoot-out.
The LTA Team Tennis programme consists of three nationally organised competitions.
They provide secondary school and further education pupils with the opportunity to play regular competitive tennis.
Stephen Welti, coach at Ellesmere College, said "I couldn't be more proud of how the boys team have performed.
"The great strength of the competition is that it's a team event and players have worked hard together to achieve success."
The finals will take place at Queenswood from Wednesday to Saturday, July 6-9.
