Opponents too strong for Bridgnorth
Bridgnorth found Smethwick too strong as a third-wicket stand of 122 helped the visitors to a comfortable victory in Birmingham & District League Division One.
James Ralph (51) and Gareth Mumford (46) were the chief contributors to a Bridgnorth total of 191 with three wickets each to the Smethwick duo of Qasim Shah (3-38) and Naqaash Tahir (3-55).
After a tricky start and the loss of two early wickets, leaders Smethwick strode to a seven-wicket win after Amitoze Singh (83 not out) and Vikram Sodhi (71) put on a partnership of 122.
David Exall picked up two wickets for the hosts and skipper Sam Whitney the other.
Chairman of selectors Adam Byram believes losing the toss was crucial as Wellington fell to an eight-wicket defeat at home to Dorridge.
After being put in, the hosts were in all kinds of trouble at 55-9 in difficult batting conditions.
But a stand of 74 for the tenth wicket between Bhargav Merai, who hit 81, and Matt Stinson allowed Wellington to reach 129.
But Dorridge eased to their target inside 17 overs, as Warwickshire batsman Laurie Evans smashed 42 off 38 balls.
Shrewsbury's struggles continued as they were well heavily beaten at Premier Division high-flyers Berkswell.
On a day when batting first proved difficult around the league, only two Shrewsbury batsmen reached double figures.
Ben Stebbings provided the main resistance with 44 and Henry Blofield made 15, as the visitors were dismissed for 109 in the 46th over.
Mike Barnard struck early to remove opener Oliver Haley with the score on four.
That was the only bright spot for Rob Foster's men as an unbeaten 81 from Mark Best saw Berkswell ease to a nine-wicket success.
Shifnal skipper Tom Collins played through the pain barrier to see his side to victory in a low-scoring Division Two clash at Stourbridge.
Collins suffered a broken thumb while fielding, but hit the winning runs after dropping down the batting order.
The visitors looked to be cruising after dismissing Stourbridge for 87, but squeezed home by just two wickets.
Klein finished with 4-23 as only two Stour batsmen made it into double figures, captain Matthew Bradley top scoring with 38.
But Shifnal also found runs hard to come by and needed a flurry of big hits from Joe Chadwick to help them reach the target.
Chadwick's 36 came from just 34 balls and included six fours after the visitors were struggling at 30-4.
Oswestry had to settle for a draw after looking at one stage like they were on course for victory at Coventry & North Warwickshire.
The visitors hit 209-8 with 61 from Xavier Clarke and 41 from Junaid Cassiem the highlights. The home side were in trouble at 12-3 in their reply.
But Amrinder Singh Brar (58) and Jonathan Miles (42) staged a recovery, until Warrick Fynn (4-43) took both of their wickets to halt their bid for an unlikely victory.
An unbroken partnership of 63 between Kristen Ali and Elliott Bowen helped Whitchurch avoid defeat in the Division Three derby at Newport.
The visitors were in trouble at 121-6 replying to Newport's 210-9 when the pair came together. But Ali finished 65 not out and Bowen unbeaten on 29 as Whitchurch ended on 184-6.
Indian Premier League star Rajat Bhatia had earlier top scored with 56 to help the hosts post a competitive total, after being asked to bat first. Ijaz Yousaf picked up three wickets for the visitors.
Patrick Butler's heroics with the ball were not enough to help Worfield claim victory at Handsworth.
Butler finished with fine figures of 5-54, as the home side were dismissed for 188 after being put in by Worfield.
The visitors were going well with Will Cook and Ross Aucott putting on 67 for the third wicket.
But a collapse from 75-2 to 93-6 saw Worfield holding on for a draw, which they managed by finishing on 130-8.
