Golf proves a hit with Shropshire firms
Businesses from Shropshire got into the swing for the return of a popular community golf competition.
The second 'Swing For Bling Open' was held at The Shropshire Golf Centre in Muxton, Telford, with seven teams.
Each four-person team had to be made up of at least three beginners, and no more than one experienced player.
For the second successive year, it was Shifnal-based storage specialists Proplas Sub-Contract Limited who lifted the trophy.
Greenhous Group entered two teams and its Telford foursome was named the best team of beginners.
Swing for Bling was co-ordinated by county sports partnership Energize Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin.
It's with the support of local golf clubs and coaches, the County Golf Partnership and Associated Telecom Solutions from Shrewsbury.
Helen White, business development officer at Energize, said: "We launched Swing For Bling last year as a fun way to support new golfers.
"It gives them the skills and techniques to get out onto the course and it was a great success.
"Swing for Bling is a leisurely way for people to try the sport, removing the barriers of cost, lack of equipment and knowledge of how to start."
The seven teams, including two all-female teams, competed over nine holes of Texas scramble golf.
Everyone who took part had also received four sessions of professional coaching in the weeks leading up to the competition.
The participants were given some tips by John Richards at Shrewsbury Golf Club and at Telford Golf Club with George Boden.
Matthew Lea, Horsehay Golf Club and Lisa Shervill at the Shropshire Golf Centre also passed on their knowledge.
White added: "The golfers who took part said that the whole experience was a great introduction to golf, and really enjoyable."
