Up and coming players from around the county competed at under-nines and under-12 level.

It came in an event organised by Tennis Shropshire and hosted by Cound Tennis Club.

The gold medal winner in the under-nines competition was George Scott, who trains at Cound Tennis Club.

Sophie Taylor, from Shrewsbury's Woodfield Tennis Club, was the runner-up and received silver. The bronze medal went to Amelie Owen, another Cound Tennis Club prospect.

Shrewsbury youngster Fergus Wilson won the gold medal for the under-12s tournament, with Cound Tennis Club duo James Price and Illea Dean receiving silver and bronze respectively.

It was the first time the Wenlock Olympian Games has featured a touchtennis tournament, a relatively new version of tennis using smaller courts and rackets, but bigger, softer balls.

The idea is to remove the raw power of standard tennis and focus more on accuracy, tactics and rallies.
