The New Saints face a big hurdle tonight in Cypriot high-fliers APOEL Nicosia as they look to keep their flag flying in the Champions League.

TNS swept aside the competition's lowest seeds Tre Penne 5-1 on aggregate in the previous round.

Now the Saints come up against one of the highest-ranked sides they could have faced in the second qualifying round tie at Park Hall (7pm).

APOEL are 25-time Cyprus champions and reached the quarter-finals of the competition four seasons ago when losing to Real Madrid.

TNS boss Craig Harrison is anticipating a stern test, but is backing his side to rise to the occasion.

Having already earned 300,000 euros for progressing to the second qualifying round, the Saints will get a further 100,000 euros for reaching the third.

He said: "It was a fantastic victory, we're delighted to win both legs in a Champions League tie, but the work does not stop with such a short turnaround in games.

"We've watched footage of their last three games and we'll make sure we prepare as well as we can for what is going to be a tough game."
