In a bid to capitalise on British success at Wimbledon, a number of county clubs will be throwing open their doors.

It will be for the second Great British Tennis Weekend of 2016, a popular Lawn Tennis Association initiative.

Bob Kerr, the chairman of Tennis Shropshire, said: "Clubs will be offering a range of activities.

"We encourage local people to go along and have a go at tennis, to get involved, with rackets and balls provided. You just need to turn up and have a go.

"Very often there's one or two enticements, perhaps reduced club membership, or reduced coaching costs, so it's always well worth going along.

"It's become a popular addition to the calendar and it's a chance for clubs to promote what they can offer their local communities."

The clubs holding Great British Tennis Weekends on Saturday are Oswestry Tennis Club (11am-1pm), Newport's Boughey Gardens Tennis Club (1.30-4pm), Whitchurch's Hollies Tennis Club (2-4pm) and Baschurch Tennis Club (3-5.30pm).

Sunday sees Wem Tennis Club serving up free tennis activities between noon and 3pm while there's also the chance for people to get involved and give tennis a go on the same day.

They can go to Church Stretton Lawn Tennis Club (10am-1pm), Worfield Tennis Club (10am-2pm), Tilstock Bowling & Tennis Club (2-4pm) and Ludlow Castle Tennis Club (2-5pm).
