Ex-Philippines boss named at Newport
New-look Newport have named former Philippines boss Phil Gittus as their new first-team manager.
Gittus has returned from his stint at international level to go back to his local club as they bid to bounce back from last season's relegation from National League Three Midlands.
Director of rugby Chris Wilde said: "The appointment of Phil Gittus as first-team manager will take a huge load off the shoulders of both myself and the coaching staff.
"His organisational skills are second to none and I'm really looking forward to working with him."
The Shropshire club have also added five new players to their ranks, including international players Jamie Robinson and Esala Tawake, who represent Hong Kong and Fiji respectively.
Robinson, who can play either as a centre or on either wing, will be representing Hong Kong in August when they travel to Kenya.
Fly-half Tom Cookson and second row Mike Venn have both signed after impressive stints at Shrewsbury. Newport have also agreed a contract with back row Carwyn Howells.
