Powys judoka Natalie Powell insists anything less than gold at the Rio Olympic Games will be a failure.

The 25-year-old has history in her sights as she goes to Brazil as part of a seven-strong Team GB judo squad, looking to become Great Britain's first Olympic judo champion.

And after winning gold for Wales in the 2014 Commonwealth Games, the world No.8 is in confident mood ahead of the action in the women's 78kg category tomorrow.

"It feels amazing to be selected," said the Irfon Judo Club member. "If I can fight the best I can then there is no reason why I can't be on top of the podium.

"The amount of work I've put in, in Cardiff with my coach, that's what we've been working for – to get to the top of the podium. Anything less will be a failure, but a medal would still be great at my first Olympics."

Powell will be the first Welsh woman to compete in judo at the Olympic Games.
